Scan known domains for analogous problems sharing structural features with this challenge. Extract the solution pattern from the best analog and map its components onto the novel problem. Verify that the transferred pattern fits. Test the transferred solution by simulating its application and checking outcomes. Force analogy structural correspondence weak is rejected.
The Structure
The reasoning structure is an abstraction ladder that moves up and down between concrete details and abstract patterns. The process iterates until convergence, where additional passes add nothing new.
If a problem is solved from scratch without checking whether a known solution to an analogous problem could be adapted, analogical transfer was not attempted.
